You have been the first historians to actually go back in time and see what the past was like first hand.  Thank you for bringing your knowledge and skills back with you to help us better understand the causes and consequences of the Industrial Revolution and America’s growth into a modern nation.

It was Twain and Warner that coined the phrase “the Gilded Age” because they felt that on the surface, the late 19th century appeared to be a golden age in America, but the truth was hidden just below the surface. So, based on your own experiences, in what ways is the late 19th century similar to the late 20th/early 21st century?  Are we living in the Second Gilded Age?
